Liverpool got off to a superb start in 2013-14 with a 1-0 win over Stoke City at Anfield.

Daniel Sturridge netted the only goal of the game with a low drive on 37 minutes, but the hero was debutant goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

In the 89th minute, Stoke City were awarded a penalty and when the normally reliable Jonathan Walters stepped up it looked like the opening-day party was about to be spoilt.

However, Mignolet endeared himself to the Kop with a stunning double save to help the Reds to a 1-0 victory.
