Coming in at number eight is a man who inspired Liverpool's FA Cup final win in 2001 against Arsenal, Michael Owen.

The Academy graduate netted 118 goals during his eight-year spell at Anfield and lifted the FA Cup, two League Cups and a UEFA Cup before making the switch to Spain and Real Madrid.

Within a year he was back in England. Many Reds expected him to return to Anfield following on from their Istanbul triumph against AC Milan; however, Owen opted for Newcastle and arrived at St James' Park to a warm Tyneside welcome.

During a four-year stint at St James', he had a spell as captain of the Toon.

Owen this week returned to Liverpool to become the club's first ever international ambassador.
