Having netted the winning goal from a brilliant free-kick the previous season, the midfielder had the travelling Kop in raptures yet again.
With just six minutes remaining of the content, Steven Gerrard played the most perfect through pass for Murphy, and Liverpool's No.13 did the rest with a perfectly executed chip over the advancing Fabien Barthez.
