The sight of Philippe Coutinho trying to prise open opposing defences has punctuated Liverpool's current seven-match unbeaten run, and Lucas Leiva believes he is demonstrating exactly why he's earned the nickname 'The Magician' within the dressing room.

The 22-year-old has been in excellent form in recent weeks, with a series of probing displays culminating in him being voted as December's Player of the Month by Reds fans.

It's not just supporters who have been enamored by Coutinho's industry - his fellow teammates have also been keen to highlight his contribution.

Now Lucas has praised his compatriot, insisting he has the talent to achieve anything he wants within the game.

Speaking to this week's edition of #LFCWORLD, he said: "Philippe's main strength is probably the final pass. He can pick a pass very well and sees things that maybe [other players] don't see. His creativity is incredible and that's why he's called 'The Magician' by all of us in the team.

"He's got very quick feet and is very skillful. It is very hard to take the ball from him and that is another of his strengths.

"He has improved defensively with his aggression and pressing. He has added to his game.

"I think he can achieve anything that he wants to. He has the qualities and the potential to be one of the best players in the world.

"He is keen to learn and that is the beginning. By playing games, he will keep developing.

"I can see Philippe having a big history in football because he is a talented player and a nice guy, so it's a good combination."

Coutinho arrived at Anfield in January 2013 as Liverpool swooped to secure his services from Inter Milan.

Lucas instantly developed a quick rapport with the playmaker - a bond that stretches beyond the pitch.

"I am very close to him," he said. "I probably spend more time with him away from football than on a daily basis in training because when you're at training, you don't really talk much.

"He is a nice guy and is very keen to learn. He is young but has a lot of ambition to become a top player.

"He already is a top player, but I think he will only get better. He is now building his story in the national team for Brazil, which I know means a lot to him.

"I am very happy that I could help him when he first came here and now he is settled and feeling very comfortable."
