Robbie Fowler is relishing the prospect of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez carrying their insatiable goalscoring form from the Barclays Premier League onto the highest European stage next season.

The former Liverpool striker, who registered 183 times in 369 appearances for the club, has spoken at length in recent months about his appreciation for the duo who have followed his prolific footsteps.

Their goals - 53 in total as the Reds surged to second place and within touching distance of the title until the final day of the campaign - were a constant source of entertainment and joy for the supporters.

Now the challenge will be to not only repeat those heroics in front of goal but achieve the feat in the Champions League, for which Brendan Rodgers' side qualified with three fixtures to spare.

Fowler envisages few issues for the partnership nicknamed 'SAS', however, and revealed his level of excitement for watching the Englishman and the Uruguayan take on the cream of the continent.

"Both of them are fantastic players," the 39-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com. "I've always said that good players can play in any team and good players can play against anyone.

"Daniel Sturridge has been brilliant. He came in at the start of the season and scored a lot of goals, and people forget he missed all of pre-season because of his injury with England.

"He has come in and scored goals. He has come to Liverpool and has knuckled down, is scoring goals and has worked hard.

"Luis Suarez, you can't say enough about him. He has been phenomenal this season. He is the world-class player that we at Liverpool want to see.

"He does things out of the ordinary, some things you never expect any player to do. I can't wait to see him in the Champions League next year."

A hard-fought 3-2 victory over Norwich City on April 20 guaranteed the Reds an automatic berth in the Champions League for 2014-15, after five years out of the elite competition.

Fowler experienced the tournament in each of his two separate spells as a Liverpool player, featuring on 12 occasions and finding the target three times.

He therefore knows what to expect when those nights return to Anfield in a matter of months - so much so that the Toxteth native is already counting down the days until the new campaign begins.

"There are going to be some unbelievable games coming to Anfield next year," Fowler commented.

"As a supporter, the Champions League nights are superb; we know what they are like, supporters and players love them.

"The manager has not been in the Champions League before so he'll certainly strive to do as well as he can. As a club, we deserve to be in the Champions League - for who we are and what we are.

"Next season will be magnificent and I can't wait for it now. It sounds silly, because this one has only just finished, but that's always the case - you want the next one to come back very quickly, for the simple fact that we've been so good this year."
