More than 100 youngsters will get the opportunity to showcase their football skills tonight [Monday 12th May 2014] when Anfield hosts the Liverpool Cup.

Eight Merseyside schools will participate in the tournament's semi-finals and finals at Anfield from 6:00pm - 8:45pm.

LFC legends, Howard Gayle and Alan Kennedy and Liverpool Ladies stars, Natasha Dowie, Becky Easton, Danielle Gibbons and Martha Harris will be on hand to present the winning teams with the Liverpool Cup and the Jack Cross LFC Cup and the runners-up with their medals.

Over 2,500 boys and 1,100 girls from schools across the city region have already featured in the earlier rounds of the competition, which is now in its 36th year.

Last year's winners of the Liverpool Cup were Forefield Juniors and Somerville primary scooped the Jack Cross LFC Cup.

The tournament will be open to the public and the entry fee is £4.00, which can be paid on arrival at Anfield's Main Stand.

All money raised by the Liverpool Cup will be re-distributed back to schools throughout the Merseyside region via the Liverpool and Merseyside Schools FA to provide more sporting opportunities to local children.

Liverpool Cup Secretary, Steve Sass, said: "This year's semi-finals and finals are set to provide an exciting evening of action at Anfield. I would like to thank Liverpool FC for their ongoing support of the event and for hosting it once again at Anfield.

"Having the opportunity to play at Anfield is such a great experience for these kids and it will no doubt be a day to remember for the rest of their lives."
