LFC quartet in PFA awards contention
Three Liverpool players – captain Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and top scorer Luis Suarez – have today been named on the six-man shortlist for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award.
Half-a-dozen contenders for the individual accolade were announced on Friday, with the Reds boasting 50 per cent of the candidates for the honour which will be presented on Sunday, April 27.
The skipper has been a driving force behind his team's surge to the summit of the Barclays Premier League, registering 13 goals from his deep midfield position and providing 10 assists.
Ahead of him, Sturridge and Suarez have terrorised defences throughout the campaign; the pair top the division's scoring charts with 20 and 29 respectively, while the latter has created more goals for a teammate than any other player, with 12.
Completing the shortlist are Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard, Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana and Yaya Toure of Manchester City. The ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House in London.
Suarez was named runner-up for the prize 12 months ago, behind former Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale, while Gerrard was the last Liverpool player to claim the award, at the end of the 2005-06 season.
There are also two Reds representatives in the running for the PFA Young Player of the Year honour, with Sturridge in dual contention for the title alongside Raheem Sterling, who has thrived under Brendan Rodgers in 2013-14.
The six-man shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award also includes Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, the aforementioned Hazard, Aaron Ramsey of Arsenal and Saints defender Luke Shaw.
Liverpool Ladies, the reigning Women's Super League champions, were recognised for their efforts, with Lucy Bronze, Natasha Dowie and Nicole Rolser all nominated for the Women's Players' Player of the Year.
Bronze was equally selected as a contender for the Women's Young Player of the Year prize, alongside teammate and recent signing Martha Harris.
