On the day he celebrates his 80th birthday, LFC TV will pay a unique tribute to bootroom legend Ronnie Moran by tracing the 49 trophy-filled years he spent with Liverpool Football Club this Friday.

'Bugsy Moran: A Tribute to Liverpool's Sergeant Major' will premiere on the Reds' official television channel at 7.30pm GMT on February 28 and reflect on the remarkable journey of an unsung hero.

The 30-minute programme recounts Moran's story from the young defender who initially signed professional forms at Anfield in 1952 right the way through to his retirement from the game in 1998.

In between, the men who know him best - including Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Ian Rush and Phil Thompson - share their memories of a genuine institution who filled almost every role at the club and is among the most successful coaches of all time.

Uncompromising, insatiable and a gruelling taskmaster, during his time as a member of Liverpool's backroom staff, the Englishman oversaw 11 league championships, four FA Cups and four European Cups.

In the show, Dalglish comments: "I don't think anyone who worked with him will have anything other than total admiration and respect for him. It should never ever be underestimated his contribution to this football club."

Keegan, who worked closely with Moran throughout his time at Anfield, added: "Without the Ronnie Morans of this world you don't have a football club, certainly not a successful one like Liverpool. He becomes the foundation. He was there as a player, he was alongside all the successful managers, he is the one link to it all."

Thompson progressed through the Reds' reserves and later lifted the European Cup under the guidance of Moran - he said: "I think he's probably one of the most important people this football club has ever had."

The programme will air for the first time at 7.30pm on Friday on LFC TV and will be repeated during the following days. 'Bugsy Moran' will also be available on demand for LFC TV Online subscribers.
