Liverpool supporter Mark Maddox, who made more than 300 appearances for Altrincham, is raising awareness for a campaign called Football v MND.

Mark was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), the muscle-wasting condition, in 2010 and given a life expectancy of just two to five years.

Since then, the 40-year-old has completed marathons and a parachute jump, with all the sponsorship money generated going towards the fight against MND.

Now he is the face of Football v MND and hopes to feature the official poster in 300 matchday programmes around the country this season.

Liverpool FC's own matchday programme is only too happy to help Mark, who watches the Reds both home and away with his friend Ian Porter.

Mark said: "I've been blown away by the support so far, with clubs from Sunday league to the Premier League getting involved.

"I have gone from being a fit and sporty lad to someone who will need 24-hour care. The biggest problem that we have with MND is that unfortunately there is no cure.

"I'm hoping the whole football community gets behind this campaign. Personally, I wasn't known for scoring goals, I was known for getting stuck in and putting a tackle in - so I'm hoping that we can all get behind the campaign to tackle Motor Neurone Disease together."
