Coates: You'll enjoy watching Uruguay
Sebastian Coates admits he's delighted Liverpool fans will get an opportunity to watch Uruguay attempt to seal qualification for the World Cup finals live on LFC TV on Wednesday evening.
The Reds' official television channel will broadcast the entire 90 minutes of La Celeste's second leg play-off against Jordan live from the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo tonight.
LFC TV's coverage will begin at 10.45pm GMT with pre-match analysis - before the action gets underway at 11pm.
In addition, the whole match will be streamed live exclusively on Liverpoolfc.com for fans with an LFC TV Online subscription.
Luis Suarez will be involved as the Uruguayans attempt to build upon the healthy 5-0 lead they hold from last week's first leg - and Coates is happy Kopites around the world will have the chance to watch them in action.
"It's great, really great, for both myself and Luis that the fans and people in Liverpool get to see and experience some Uruguayan football, and that way they can add to their football knowledge," the defender told Liverpoolfc.com. "For both of us, that's great.
"Uruguay's style is to always battle hard in every game and never give up on any tackle as a lost cause. Let's hope they'll be able to see some goals in the game, as that's what all fans enjoy.
"Uruguay are a solid and compact unit and everyone works hard for the side. Hopefully, that's what you'll all see in the game."
As his country's all-time record goalscorer, Suarez will undoubtedly be the star attraction for both Liverpool fans and football supporters alike.
However, Coates feels Uruguay have several other players who will catch the eye.
"There are a lot of very good players in the squad; of course Cavani and Luis come to mind, but as well as them you have a group full of excellent players," he said.
"I think they showed that in the first game and hopefully the rest of them can give another good account of themselves in this one."
Naturally, given their five-goal advantage from the first leg, Uruguay are overwhelming favourites to book a ticket to next summer's finals in Brazil.
Coates, though, believes those involved will be taking nothing for granted.
He explained: "Maybe it's okay for me to say that [I'm confident] from here, but when you are playing and directly involved, you never think that it's all over and done with, but rather just think about putting in as good a performance as possible.
"I just hope that Uruguay can close out this play-off and secure qualification for the World Cup.
"I think for any country, playing at a World Cup finals is the best and most important thing you can get.
"For us, historically, playing in Brazil is important as it's the place where we last won the trophy, so playing another World Cup tournament in that country would be fantastic, a really big deal for us.
"So first we need to qualify and then we can start planning for the World Cup itself."
Three-and-a-half years ago in South Africa, Uruguay finished in fourth place at the World Cup finals, losing out to Germany in the play-off.
"It's hard to say [whether we're a better team]," Coates considered. "You are talking about two separate periods in time.
"All we can do is hope that Uruguay does as well as possible and we progress as far as we can. The third-place play-off wouldn't be bad, just like in South Africa."
Coates admits he's disappointed not to be involved in his home country, with a knee problem sustained at the start of the season likely to rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
He added: "It's quite tough. Especially when you've been there at the beginning and through the qualifying stages, and then you miss the best part as the team are on the brink of qualification, something they'll hopefully achieve.
"What I'm working hard to achieve right now is to get back playing as early as possible, to be able to make myself available for selection to the coach, so that he can decide whether or not I'll make the squad.
"It's down to me to prepare myself the best I can to be ready and available for whenever he decides."
