Almost 40 years after former Liverpool manager Bill Shankly was honoured with a unique farewell dinner party, Reds supporters have the opportunity to attend a recreation to mark the Scot's 100th birthday.

A month after Shankly shocked the world by announcing his resignation as Liverpool manager, his players organised a 'Thank-you, boss' meal at St George's Hotel in the city.

Among the delicacies featured on the menu on August 21, 1974 were 'Cured Kop Cod', 'Clear Mersey Soup' and 'Spiced Weeds from the Park' as well as wine from the 'Shankly vintage year' of 1972.

As part of the club's wide-ranging plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Shankly's birth next month, the Glenbuck native's last menu will be recreated at an exclusive Anfield event on Saturday, September 7.

Hosted by BBC presenter and LFC supporter Colin Murray, the evening will include an authentic version of the meal served 39 years ago, albeit with a modern twist, produced by club chefs.

A number of former Reds players who worked under Shankly and guest speakers will also be in attendance to share their nostalgic stories and memories of the Scot and his remarkable impact at Anfield.

Prices for this special occasion begin at £75 per person, which includes drinks upon arrival, the experience of Shankly's last menu and excellent entertainment throughout the evening.

Upgrade to a premium package for £95 per person and you can enjoy all of the above plus a legends tour of Anfield with a player who represented the Reds during Shankly's tenure.

Available places for this event, which will get underway at 7.30pm BST, are strictly limited so do not miss out - book now by calling our events team on 0151 263 7744.
