As two of the youngest players in Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool squad, Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe are always looking to offer each other encouragement.

Sterling was on target to seal the Reds' 2-0 win over an Indonesia XI in Jakarta on Saturday afternoon, after superb play from Ibe in the build-up to the goal.

After the game, Sterling praised his teammate's performance - and told LFC TV how the two are coping with the pressures of first-team football by sticking together.

"I try to tell Jordon stuff that I experienced last year, which he is going through now. We're both helping each other to do well," said Sterling.

"He's been brilliant through the whole pre-season and scored in the last game. [Against Indonesia] it was great play from him and unselfish play from Oussama Assaidi as well to play me through.

"It was a great team goal. I'm close mates with Jordon and we speak all the time. As young players we've got to encourage each other."

Philippe Coutinho's early strike gave the Reds the lead at the GDK National Stadium, in front of a raucous atmosphere generated by Indonesia's passionate Kopites.

Sterling admitted that while it was a tough game, especially given the testing conditions, he was bowled over by the support the Reds received from the stands.

"Since the first minute there were thousands of people waiting for us at the airport, people chasing the bus down," said the 18-year-old. "I've never seen anything like it and I'm just happy to be part of this great football club.

"It was obviously a great feeling to score in front of the fans out here. From the first minute we got here, they have been brilliant so it's a good feeling to score in front of such amazing fans."

"In the whole game I thought we did really well, but in the second half I thought we controlled the ball and attacked really well at times."

Sterling made 23 appearances last season and was a near constant in the senior side up until Christmas - and his aim now is to recreate that run of form when the 2013-14 season gets underway in August

"I said to myself this season that I'm here to impress the manager," explained the winger.

"I feel 100 per cent fine; with the thigh injury, I've just got to keep on top of everything to make sure I don't irritate it again. I've been in the physio room before games and after games for treatment. I'll keep on top of it and I do feel back to my full fitness.

"Nothing more to it than getting my head down, trying my hardest and showing the manager I'm 100 per cent committed for the team and any cause he has to offer."
