Brendan Rodgers swooped to clinch the signing of Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid on Saturday. Here is all you need to know about our fourth arrival of the summer.

Nuri Sahin was born to Turkish parents in the German town of Ludenscheid and joined Borussia Dortmund's youth academy as a 12-year-old after being spotted playing for RSV Meinerzhagen.

His early football career was punctuated by a series of records and achievements which began at the U17 Championships in Italy, where his flourishing contribution for Turkey was acknowledged with the Player of the Tournament award.

Sahin was then instrumental once more as the Turks clinched a fourth-place finish at the U17 World Cup in Peru, where he won the bronze ball behind Premier League stars-to-be Carlos Vela of Mexico and the Brazilian Anderson.

Domestically, he became the youngest-ever Bundesliga debutant aged 16 years and 354 days when he got his first run-out for Dortmund in August 2005.

The same month, Sahin made his full international debut for Turkey - turning down the opportunity to play for the country where he was born and raised, Germany.

And fate would have it that, when the time came for him to make his first start for the national side, the opportunity arose against the country he opted not to represent.

Introduced as a substitute against the Germans in Istanbul during a friendly, Sahin took just three minutes to find the back of the net for the national side.

Steaming into the penalty area as German defenders scrambled to clear their lines; he thrashed the ball through a wall of defenders and into the goal behind with a perfectly-executed bicycle kick which made him the national side's youngest-ever scorer.

More records were to follow. Three months after making his first Dortmund appearance, he became the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history when he clinched the Black Yellows' winner against FC Nuremberg in November 2005.

That season was to be his first in the Bundesliga and the midfielder notched 23 appearances and chipped in with six assists for his teammates. He played plenty of games in the 2006-07 season as well, turning out 24 times for the German outfit - still at the relatively tender age of 18.

His finely-tuned passing range allowed him to instigate attacking moves with slick and accurate distribution - a facet of his game which will help him slot seamlessly into Rodgers' Liverpool plans. But the midfielder could also offer his share of the goals.

As was proved when he fired twice on his home debut for Feyenoord at the start of 2007-08 season. He had agreed to join the Dutch outfit on a one-year loan in order to rejoin former Dortmund coach Bert van Marwijk, who had left the German club in December 2006.

That season Sahin made 29 appearances but despite firing six goals, his Feyenoord side finished seventh in the league.

Back home, Dortmund were faring no better. Thomas Doll's men slumped to a 13th-placed finish in Sahin's absence and so in May 2008, Jurgen Klopp signed a two-year contract to replace him as manager.

The incoming boss was a meticulous and highly ambitious young coach and soon after arriving in Germany, he made it clear that Sahin, back with the club following his year-long spell in Holland, would be an integral component of his vision for the club.

Klopp targeted a total transformation at the Westfalenstadion; his aim was to propel Dortmund back to the top of German football and within four seasons he could claim to have done exactly that.

The 2008-09 season saw them finish sixth. Sahin was an integral part of his side and he thrived alongside new recruits Kevin Grosskreutz, Lukas Piszczek, Mats Hummels and Mario Gotze.

In 25 appearances, he netted twice and created six goals. The following year he doubled his goalscoring tally and added two more assists to his count as Dortmund edged their way closer to the Bundesliga summit.

At the end of the 2010-11 season, they were crowned champions. Sahin was a near ever-present and his vital statistics had improved for a third season running. This time he struck six and assisted eight as Klopp and co. brought the title back to the Westfalenstadion for the first time in eight years.

However, Sahin was on his way out of Dortmund in the summer of 2011 as Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho beckoned.

His first game in La Liga ended in a 7-1 victory to Madrid against Osasuna in November 2011 and in December that year he scored his first goal as they thrashed Ponferradina 5-1 in the Copa del Rey.

Madrid were crowned Spanish champions in May 2012; however, four months later, Sahin was on his way to Anfield to become Liverpool's fourth summer recruit.
