There is still time to catch Dave Kirby's brilliant Reds and Blues - The Ballad of Dixie and Kenny, which is currently showing at the Royal Court theatre in Liverpool city centre until August 11.

Originally a film, Kirby's take on the famous Merseyside footballing rivalry saw huge success when released  back in 2010 and now it has been adapted for stage.

Telling the tale of two avid football fans on either side of the great city divide, Reds and Blues opened at the Royal Court on June 29.

Actors Paul Duckworth and Drew Schofield return to their roles as Dixie and Kenny as rapid-fire banter and wind ups come thick and fast in a show that keeps audiences laughing from first minute to last.

"It's surprising, given the history of the city and its football, that no one has ever made a football comedy," explained Kirby. "There's natural conflict in the rivalry and every drama needs conflict.

"So, that was a challenge, and with that challenge I knew I could get something special.

"I've been able to develop a few characters (from the screen version) and I've written six more songs. There's loads of new comedy in there, so you can expect a totally different feel to the show.

"Camera is great but you can't beat live theatre and that's where the likes of Paul and Drew excel. I can write the lines but they take it to another level."
