Jordan: I couldn't watch pens
Jordan Henderson was so nervous during Sunday night's penalty shoot-out that he couldn't bring himself to watch the drama unfold.
Thousands of Reds inside Wembley - as well as hundreds of thousands watching around the world - were in a similar position to the youngster as yet another Liverpool cup final was settled by the nail-biting penalty shoot-out.
Senior players like Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard have taken part in their fair share of shoot-outs over the last decade - and Pepe Reina and Dirk Kuyt were heroes from the spot in the 2006 FA Cup and 2007 Champions League respectively.
But for Henderson, who won his first trophy as a professional player at the weekend, the tension was, at times, a bit too nerve-wracking.
"I couldn't watch the penalties being taken," he told the Liverpool Echo. "I was that nervous.
"I have to say it was great bottle from all the lads who went up and took a penalty, because I was nervous just watching them! I can't imagine what they were feeling, but each and every one of them showed brilliant character.
"I would have wanted to take one, but it's easy for me to say that now I suppose! It takes real bottle to step up, and the lads all deserve great credit for doing so. It was a great end to the day."
Just nine months into his Anfield career, Henderson is the proud owner of a cup winners' medal.
"It's a great feeling," said the No.14. "It's a great honour for me to win my first trophy as a professional, and it is the same for a few of the other lads as well.
"This is what you dream of when you come to a club like Liverpool. It is a dream to play at Wembley, to play in finals and to play in amazing arenas like this."
Liverpool edged further away from their nearest challengers in the League Cup-winning record stakes after adding an eighth trophy win to their already impressive haul. Aston Villa are closest to the Reds with five.
Henderson is well-versed in the history of the club and he knows all about its successes down the years - something he's keen to emulate as a Liverpool player.
"Growing up you are aware of Liverpool being a great club with great players who won trophies and medals and competed for honours," said Henderson. "The history of the club, and the success it has had throughout the years, is there for everyone to see.
"That was in my mind when I joined the club, to follow those players and to play in big games, finals, and big occasions like this. We are all proud that we have been able to do that, and to win another trophy for the club.
"The atmosphere was brilliant. The fans are brilliant every week, and Sunday was no different. They enjoyed themselves and made a lot of noise, and we enjoyed ourselves too. It was an amazing day for everybody."
