Raheem Sterling fired an equaliser as Liverpool Reserves came from behind to claim a deserved point as they drew 1-1 with Everton in the mini-derby at the Kirkby Academy on Tuesday afternoon.

The Blues, under the command of Alan Stubbs, fielded a strong XI with Seamus Coleman and Magaye Gueye in their side.

They also fielded former captain David Weir, who is doing some coaching at Goodison Park.

Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson both played the full 90 minutes as Rodolfo Borrell fielded a youthful side, in front of the watching Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler.

After a goalless first-half, Greek striker Apostolos Vellios headed the Blues in front four minutes after the break, when he connected with Coleman's right-wing cross.

The Reds responded well and Sterling grabbed a deserved equaliser 17 minutes from time. Nathan Eccleston's superb run and cross found the England youth international who fired a superb effort beyond the reach of experienced stopper Marcus Hahnemann.

Conor Coady twice went close to a winner, Suso curled a drive just over and Eccleston almost netted right at the end, but in the end they had to settle for a draw.

Liverpool team: Jones, Flanagan, Robinson, Sama, Wisdom, Coady, Suso, Roberts, Eccleston, Adorjan (Ngoo 60), Sterling. Unused subs: Ward, Roddan, McGiveron, Mendy.
