In our latest starlet in profile interview, we speak to Matty McGiveron ahead of the Reserves' clash with Chelsea this afternoon.

The versatile defender has made an assured step up to the second-string this year, having been a mainstay of the U18 team that came so close to title success last term.

Here he tells us why Jamie Carragher is the benchmark for any young defender, which American TV series is must-see viewing in the McGiveron household and why he's using this article to provide a gentle reminder to one of his teammates.

Who would win at 'skill skool'?

That would be either Craig Roddan or Raheem Sterling. They are both decent at the flicks and tricks. I'll go for Craig as the winner.

If you could holiday anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Las Vegas or Miami. Somewhere in America would do for me. We went to the Caribbean at the end of last season and that was brilliant. But I'd like to try somewhere new.

Last album downloaded?

I like a bit of Adele. She's quality.

Last film watched?

I watched Avatar. It's a bit long and a bit far-fetched but it was okay.

Favourite TV show?

24. I've been watching the box sets recently. I'm on series six at the moment. Jack Bauer's a legendary character.

Worst dresser?

Krisztian Adorjan. He wears dirty trainers and jeans with rips in. It's not a great look!

Worst taste in music?

Michael Ngoo or Toni Silva. Ngoo loves his rap and London-based music while Toni's is strange Portuguese stuff. They try to get it on in the dressing room before games but the lads have none of it.

Best moment in football so far?

It would probably be winning the two pre-season tournaments when Rodolfo (Borrell) first arrived here as U18 coach. We beat some superb teams over in Spain and it was a great moment for us.

Worst or most embarrassing moment relating to football...

I once went to take a throw-in and got it all wrong in front of quite a big crowd. The ball just smacked against the back of my head and all I could hear was people laughing at me. That was pretty embarrassing.

Which three teammates would be the most useful to get trapped on a desert island with - and why?

Craig Roddan and Michael Roberts would keep me entertained with good banter. The third is tricky, but I'd probably pick Brad Smith. He's a good guy and would join in with the fun.

If you could take one of the lads to have their haircut, who would it be?

Robbo. He's been saying he'll get his hair cut for a while now but it's still looking long. Hopefully he'll read this and take the hint to go and get it sorted!

Teammate who spends longest in the mirror?

Who isn't vain in our team? That would be a better question! I'll say Suso. We are talking a good, good while in front of that mirror.

Best ever player in your position?

Throughout my life I've watched Jamie Carragher and I've always looked up to him from day one of my playing career. He's a been a fantastic servant to this club and the perfect example of what a defender must do to be a success at LFC. He's the benchmark.

Best thing about playing for Liverpool FC?

I've grown up supporting Liverpool and always wanted to play for them. It's the old cliché, but it really is a dream to be here.

And just finally, you play Chelsea in the domestic league this afternoon, are you confident you can get that first win?

It's a massive game for us. We know a bit about their team and we are all eager to get some points on the board. Hopefully we can do the business and get the league season up and running.
