The memory of legendary Kopite Stephen Gill will be honoured on Saturday night with a special fundraising evening at the Sandon.

A popular and well-known figure amongst Liverpool supporters, Gilly sadly lost a long battle with illness in June aged 56.

Brought up in Kirkby, Stephen moved to the south coast to find work in the 1970s, but continued to follow the Reds, not missing a game home or away.

He later formed the Folkstone Reds supporters' club, which he ran for over 25 years travelling all over the country and around Europe. He was even named as the Liverpool Echo's Fan of the Year in 2007.

Gilly's funeral was held in Newcastle, but as many from his home city were unable to make it, his memory will now be honoured at the birthplace of his beloved Reds, the Sandon.

The event gets underway at 7.30pm and there will be a buffet, live entertainment, disco and raffles.

Tickets are priced at £10 and can be purchased in advance or on the night at the door. Donations are also welcome.

All funds raised will go towards Gilly's family.
