Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was handed a special gift from Liverpool's official Japan supporters' club at Melwood last week, handmade by more than 200 members of the branch.

One thousand paper origami cranes held together by string – a Japanese tradition when wishing someone who is injured or ill to get well soon – were presented to the midfielder.

Each individual crane contained a hand-written message to Oxlade-Chamberlain from a member of the supporters’ club, with the entire piece taking approximately a month to construct.

And the branch’s Yujiro Sagawa travelled to Melwood to personally hand over the gift to the Reds star, who was overwhelmed by the gesture.

“To know people in Japan have taken that much time to put something together like this for me to wish me well during what’s obviously a hard time is amazing,” said Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“It’s a massive help to me and the support is always appreciated, especially when you go through tough times. To know people are still thinking of you is incredible.

“I can’t thank the members of the Japan supporters’ club enough for this wonderful gift.”
