The Liverpool FC Foundation has launched a series of new literacy sessions in local schools as part of the Premier League Writing Stars national poetry competition.

After celebrating success in last year’s inaugural campaign - which saw Liverpool pupil Aashvi Agarwal named as North West regional winner - LFC Foundation coaches are once again taking the PL Writing Stars curriculum into four Anfield primary schools.

Pupils aged five to 11 from The Beacon, Our Lady Immaculate, Whitefield and Florence Melly primary schools will be encouraged to get creative and pen their own poetry based on this year’s theme of diversity.

PL Writing Stars is part of the wider PL Primary Stars education programme - delivered by the LFC Foundation across Merseyside - and uses the appeal of football to inspire children to express themselves through creative writing.

The competition is open to all primary schools in England and Wales and poems can be submitted via schools, either online or by post. Teachers have until Friday December 21 to submit their pupils’ work, with the winners announced in March 2019.

A limited-edition Writing Stars poetry book featuring the regional and national winners will be published in 2019.
