Fans may have spotted a new charity logo that Liverpool are proudly sporting on their Champions League kit.

The Side by Side logo, which was unveiled during the Reds’ Champions League opener at home to AC Milan, will remain on the kit at all games throughout the 2021-22 Champions League campaign.

Side by Side is the ground-breaking partnership between LFC Foundation and international children’s charity Right To Play. Using the power of sport and play, the Side by Side programmes transform the lives of vulnerable children at home and away. The partnership enables children in the world’s most deprived communities to access innovative and high-impact programmes in safe and secure play spaces.

Led by an expert team of Side by Side coaches, children develop the critical life skills they need to overcome the impacts of poverty, conflict and disease to rise above adversity and build a better future for themselves and their families.

Having launched in 2019, the partnership has a number of programmes running in communities across both Liverpool and Bangkok. To date, the Side by Side programmes have supported almost 21,000 participants.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has hit vulnerable children, including those in the Side by Side programmes, especially hard. It is estimated that a staggering 94 per cent of the world’s student population have been adversely affected by COVID-19 school closures. Around 1.6 billion children are still out of school and at extreme risk of dropping out permanently.

As a result, LFC Foundation and Right To Play are working directly in the highest-need communities in Liverpool and Bangkok providing emergency lockdown aid and specialist support to children and their families. Whilst the situation in Liverpool and the rest of the UK continues to improve, Bangkok is currently in the midst of a third wave of the virus, with daily cases remaining high.

The support Side by Side provides remains hugely important to families and communities as they continue to battle the effects of this pandemic and rebuild their lives. This is why the Side by Side logo is now prominent on the Champions League kit.

For the 2021-22 season, the partnership has set itself an ambitious target of raising £150,000 and Reds around the world can contribute to this target by purchasing the Side by Side logo to add to their kit.

The Side by Side logo is available to purchase online from today. The logo costs £5 and every penny goes towards the Side by Side partnership.
