Full Time

It's all over at the Rose Bowl and Liverpool slip to a 1-0 defeat in their opening International Champions Cup clash against Chelsea.

The Reds dominated possession for long periods, but ultimately were undone by Gary Cahill's 10th minute header.

Chelsea were reduced to 10 men with a quarter of the game remaining when Cesc Fabregas was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Ragnar Klavan.

Matic clears under pressure from Klavan from Brannagan's dangerous free-kick into the six-yard box.

Brannagan and Alexander-Arnold on for the Moreno and Stewart.

Milner and Lallana combine to fashion an opening, but Chelsea manage to clear at the last to prevent Ings from tapping in.

Yellow Card

Kevin Stewart goes into the book after a high challenge on Pedro.

A raft of changes for Liverpool here...

On: Henderson, Markovic, Ings, Wisdom, Milner, Ojo.

Off: Coutinho, Firmino, Ejaria, Lovren, Randall, Mane.

Dejan Lovren is down recieving treatement after Loris Karius inadvertently collided with him attempting to clear a free-kick from Cesc Fabregas.

Willian steps up to take the resulting free-kick and sends it over the crossbar from 20 yards.

Yellow Card

Dejan Lovren collects a yellow card after pulling back Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Moreno's driven cross is just inches above the head of Lallana. Almost.

Half Time

Liverpool re-start the game against Chelsea at the Rose Bowl, where they find themselves a goal down.

Adam Lallana is on for Liverpool at half-time. He replaces Marko Grujic.

📰 Steven Gerrard's at the game, and we spoke to him beforehand:

Here are all the first-half stats from the Rose Bowl...

Half Time

Liverpool find themselves a goal behind at the break against Chelsea after Gary Cahill headed the Londoners into the lead after 10 minutes.

The Reds, however, have dominated the half and had an effort from Roberto Firmino chalked off for offisde.

Yellow Card

Ovie Ejaria is the latest player to go into the book after a challenge on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Well, that would have been some goal wouldn't it?

Mane backheels the ball to Ejaria on the edge of the box. He takes a touch and backheels it through to Firmino, who finishes low beyond Begovic's reach.

But he's flagged offside.

Moses smacks a volley inches over the Liverpool crossbar after the ball fell invitingly for him at a cleared Chelsea corner

Coutinho's brilliant pass opens up the Chelsea defence and sends Moreno scampering into the box. He attempts to pull the ball back for Firmino to strike, but it's just a touch behind the forward and he can't get it under control.

Yellow Card

Now Gary Cahill is shown a yellow card after a tackle on Connor Randall.

Coutinho curls a free-kick towards the top corner from the left, but Begovic claws it away to prevent Liverpool from equalising.

Alberto Moreno delivers a free-kick from the right corner of the box but Roberto Firmino can't reach it.

Yellow Card

A second booking for Liverpool in the early stages and once again for a foul on Willian - this time Marko Grujic sees yellow.

Liverpool fall behind as Gary Cahill heads home Cesc Fabregas' corner from close-range. It's the first goal the Reds have conceded in pre-season.

Yellow Card

Alberto Moreno is shown an early yellow card after a late challenge on Willian on the left.

There's a very special guest in attendance tonight here at the Rose Bowl - none other than Steven Gerrard.

Speaking to LFCTV ahead of kick-off, he said: “It’s strange really. Being so far away and then your club rolls into town with so many familiar faces.

"It’s great to have the club over here in California – I’m sure everyone is enjoying the weather and the surroundings. Hopefully they can get a good positive win and some fitness under their belt against Chelsea.”

In his pre-match interview with LFCTV, Ragnar Klavan explained why this clash is an important one for the Reds.

The defender said: “I hope we can continue our form. Chelsea are a good opponent. They have a new manager and they are hungry. We’ll do our best.

“We have been training hard and will try to keep up the performance. It’s a good test game but we will try to take things from training with us and test them. It’s an important game for us.”

Having only joined up with his teammates for the first time this summer last night, it's no surprise Emre Can is not in the matchday squad for tonight's game.

However, he has been out on the pitch doing some running under the watchful eye of Andreas Kornmayer.
