"We lost formation in the second half and we couldn’t avoid these long balls to Pelle anymore, who is always fighting for second balls. If you are then not compact you have the problem that they are better in the game."
.@DFairclough12: "They came out the traps quicker than us in the second half." https://t.co/gQqkBUBFu8— LFCTV (LFCTV) 20th Mar 15:39

Southampton 3-2 Liverpool
The Reds look unstoppable in the first half at St Mary's but a second-half fightback from Saints earns them all three points.
Southampton 3-2 Liverpool (Mane)
The game has been turned on its head. Mane escapes into the box and finishes emphatically into the far corner on his left foot.
Southampton 2-2 Liverpool (Pelle)
The hosts are level. Skrtel wins a header at the edge of the area but Pelle is on hand to pick up the loose ball and curl in a well-hit strike.
Entering the final ten minutes of normal time here at St Mary's and Liverpool have some graft ahead of them if they are to take the three points. As you'd expect, the hosts have a buoyed crowd behind them and the pressure is building.
So close! Lallana pinches the ball high up the pitch before releasing Benteke, but the Belgian's finish brushes the far post and Southampton are still in this.
Southampton make their final substitution with James Ward-Prowse entering the fray for Oriol Romeu.
And for Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge is withdrawn for Christian Benteke.
Southampton back in it as a loose pass in midfield is picked up on and Mane is released. The substitute then does brilliantly to work space beyond Sakho and smashes home emphatically on his left foot.
An escape for Liverpool as Van Dijk heads a free-kick delivery back across the box and Mane comes within inches of toeing it home with Mignolet stranded.
This game is far from over!
What a save!
Martin Skrtel received a yellow card for his part in that penalty award so he'll have to be careful from now on.
SAVED! Brilliant from Mignolet as he gets down to his right to deny Mane from the spot and dig the Reds out.
Southampton win a spot-kick as Skrtel is penalised for holding onto Pelle in the box.
Some half-time substitutions for you...
Martin Skrtel replaces Dejan Lovren for Liverpool
Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane on for Dusan Tadic and Jordy Clasie for Southampton

Southampton 0-2 Liverpool
Liverpool lead by two at the break at St Mary's thanks to goals from Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge. Still plenty of work to do here but a good half from the Reds on the south coast.
Two minutes of added time at the end of the first half.
A chance for Southampton late in the half as they win a free-kick in a promising area, but Ryan Bertrand's shot at goal is high and wide and doesn't trouble Simon Mignolet.
Did you know? https://t.co/pJIlGnvRA2— LFC (Liverpool FC) 20th Mar 14:06
The Reds have the ball in the net again but it's not going to count. A corner is half cleared to Joe Allen, who finishes well on his left foot, but after what seems like an age the referee spots that his assistant's flag is up.
The linesman had - correctly, you have to say - spotted that an offside Mamadou Sakho blocked the goalkeeper's line of sight.
Never get tired of seeing this...
So nearly three! A fantastic counter from the Reds ends with Joe Allen charging into the box all alone but he can't beat Forster one-on-one. So unlucky, that would've been a brilliant team goal.
Southampton 0-2 Liverpool (Sturridge)
It's two! Origi finds space to run at the Southampton defence and forces them back before picking out Sturridge who takes a touch in the box before curling to the far corner. Brilliant centre-forward play from the Reds' front two.
Southampton 0-1 Liverpool (Coutinho)
What a strike! Coutinho picks the ball up on the left flank before cutting inside and curling a brilliant effort into the far corner. Forster is at full stretch trying to keep it out but he doesn't get near. 1-0 to the Reds.
A touch of fortune for the Reds? Long gets in behind Lovren and bursts into the box before going down under a challenge from the Croatian but referee Roger East isn't interested in the subsequent claims for a penalty... thankfully!
A bright start from Liverpool, which saw a period of sustained pressure end when Coutinho shot wide, has now given way to a good spell for Southampton.
They can't make it pay, however, as Van Dijk heads a corner wide after Flanagan was forced to put the ball out of play.
Liverpool get the game under way at St Mary's - come on you Reds!

The warm-ups are done and the players are back in the dressing room - five minutes until kick-off at St Mary's!
Roberto Firmino is not involved for Liverpool today due to a hamstring strain that will be monitored over the international break.

Morning from St Mary's...
Here's the current scene inside (a very cold) St Mary's stadium this morning.

There were some fantastic celebrations at St Mary's during our last visit, when Divock Origi scored a hat-trick in a 6-1 win for the Reds.
One for the fact fans among you
- Liverpool's biggest away win at Southampton in the top-flight was 3-0 in March 2014.
- The Reds have won their last two league visits to Southampton. Only once before have they recorded a third successive league win here - that came in 1996-97.
- There has never been a goalless draw in the 40 league meetings between the teams at Southampton.

And speaking of Lovren...
The No.6 has called for the Reds to double their chances of returning to the Champions League this season by pushing for both a top-four finish and the Europa League.
"We know where we go if we achieve one or both our aims – the Champions League. There are another 10 games left in the Premier League and then five games, if we progress all the way in the Europa, and we will push hard in both directions."
Dejan Lovren the star of our matchday poster today as he returns to face his former club!

As you can see from the Premier League table to the right of this page, Liverpool would go ahead of Southampton with a win today and would still boast two games in hand.
For that reason, Philippe Coutinho is pretty keen on picking up the three points on the south coast, though he knows the Reds can't afford to let up in terms of intensity if that is going to happen.
