FoundationLFC Foundation host families of veterans
LFC Foundation welcomed veterans’ charities from the USA and UK and surviving family members to celebrate the life and service of their loved ones, at the recent Legends game at Anfield.
Families supported by Tragedy Assistance Programme for Survivors (TAPS), Home Base and SSAFA - the Armed Forces Charity, enjoyed a weekend in the city which included a trip to the AXA Training Centre, before watching Liverpool Legends beat Celtic Legends 2-0.
The charities all provide vital support to bereaved families of military personnel in the USA and the UK, while TAPS and Home Base have worked in partnership since 2017 to care for and provide trauma support services to bereaved families of veterans who have died by suicide.
While in Liverpool, the families also paid a visit to the Cenotaph by St George’s Hall to lay a wreath and share a moment to remember their loved ones. The visitors also got a chance to meet members of the LFC Foundation’s Military Veterans programme at Anfield Sport and Community Centre.
The weekend was made possible thanks to the support from the Liverpool Veterans HQ, the Duke of Lancaster Regiment and The Royal British Legion.
Speaking about the visit, Matt Parish, CEO of LFC Foundation said: “It was a privilege for us to host the families here in Liverpool and it is an honour to work with these charities who do some incredibly important work.”
On the visit, Diana Roday Hosford, Vice President, Sports and Entertainment at TAPS, said: “The weekend was a beautiful reminder of the power of sport, human spirit and the power of connection and understanding.
“We are honoured and excited that Liverpool – via the LFC Foundation - is the first Premier League team to support the charities and the families of the fallen from the US and the UK.”
Michael Allard, Chief Operating Officer at Home Base, added: “We are sincerely grateful to the LFC Foundation for the dedication to veterans and their families. We hope this momentum will grow support and awareness for our programmes that provide lifechanging support to these families.”
