Congratulations to Mia, our Champion of the Month for September 2025!

Mia was nominated by Gina McGenity, Children’s Health Co-Ordinator, for her outstanding dedication towards our MOVE programme!

Mia’s commitment, perseverance, and personal growth throughout the programme have been nothing short of inspiring. Mia lives with an endocrine condition, Down syndrome, anxiety, and learning difficulties, and she is also recognised as overweight. She was referred to the group via Alder Hey and has attended every session to date.

The MOVE programme supports overweight children who attend the endocrine clinic and suffer from complex issues. Also, the programme works in schools providing educational material to help teach young children to make healthier lifestyle and nutrition choices.

At the start, Mia experienced high levels of anxiety and often relied on her mum to communicate on her behalf. Over time, however, she has grown significantly in confidence. She is now more comfortable engaging directly with staff and peers, and is increasingly willing to participate in group discussions and activities.

Mia has embraced the programme’s focus on healthy eating, portion sizes, healthy swaps, and physical activity, all delivered through visual and interactive learning. Her consistent attendance and developing confidence demonstrate her determination to overcome challenges and take an active role in improving her health and well-being.

The remarkable progress Mia has made not only in her understanding of healthy lifestyle choices but also in her self-confidence and independence is inspiring. The difference is clear: she is now participating more openly, engaging with the content. Mia is now talking about healthy food choices whilst out shopping in the supermarkets with mum. Mia’s mother has even requested to extend our programme with Mia from 8 weeks to 12 weeks, which we are enthusiastically doing.

Congratulations to Mia, and keep up the great work!
