LFC FoundationChampion of the Month: December 2024
Congratulations to George who is our Champion of the Month for December 2024!
George was nominated for the award by Helen Laycock for his fantastic commitment towards the Steve Morgan Foundation Works Amazon Employability Programme.
George recently attended the SMF Works Amazon Employability Programme. The programme worked in conjunction with Amazon LPl2 Knowsley warehouse in order to prepare participants for warehouse roles. The programme worked on skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills. The 8-week programme was based at the Amazon warehouse and participants were given an insight into the different roles which included receiving, checking and sorting Amazon products as well as packing and shipping customer orders and relocating products using forklift trucks.
To be able to access the programme George showed fierce commitment as he had to travel on 3 buses in order to get to the Amazon warehouse to attend the programme. Despite the long travel, George arrived early for each session and was always engaged in the activities.
Helen, who led the program, spoke about his journey:
‘George showed that he was committed to improving his skills, he worked hard during the sessions and was fantastic at working on his own but also great at working as part of a team. At the start of the programme George mentioned that he struggled with confidence but as the programme continued George's confidence and communication style improved a great deal. George overcame confidence issues to attend the course, he was nervous to meet and work with new people but by the end of the course, he showed great confidence and an ability to work with others easily. George was supportive of other team members and would share his thoughts and ideas whilst also welcoming the ideas of others. George took direction well, as well as taking feedback on board as he is always looking for ways to improve. George has a positive and calm attitude and is a supportive team member. George will be an excellent addition to any team.’
As a result of the programme, George applied for a warehouse role at Amazon and successfully got the job and is currently waiting for a start date. His new role has several options for progression and training opportunities. George had a positive impact on the other participants and was a great role model showing maturity, punctuality and a hard-working attitude. This will be George's first job and is a big step in his career journey. George said that the programme showed him his strengths and helped him to build on his skills.
We are thrilled with George’s commitment towards the program and wish him all the best in his new role!
