LFC FoundationBelvedere pupils take action and raise funds to support an important project
As part of the Onside+ programme, pupils are encouraged to identify an issue they feel passionate about and develop creative ways to raise awareness within their community.
The girls at Belvedere Academy wanted to tackle the sensitive and urgent topic of suicide prevention.
After thoughtful discussions, the group decided not only to raise awareness, but also to make a tangible impact by supporting a charity dedicated to this cause. Their chosen organisation was PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide, a UK charity committed to preventing suicide and promoting positive mental health among young people.
The pupils explored various ways to spread their message from creating presentations and posters, producing educational materials and organising an awareness evening and fundraising dinner, where guests would pay a small fee to attend.
Over several weeks, the 10 girls worked tirelessly to plan and deliver the event by delegating roles and responsibilities to ensure that the event ran smoothly. The evening was a resounding success with approximately 70 guests attending, including the headteacher of Belvedere Academy, parents of pupils, and special guests.
By the end of the night, the girls had raised an incredible £1,300 for PAPYRUS, to help make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people.
After an amazing project, the girls are looking forward to attending the Onside+ Celebration Event so that they can share their experiences with others who have been involved in their own journeys.
