The LFC Foundation continue to build meaningful connections across communities.

Belfast Met Return for Second Annual Friendly Tournament

The Foundation recently welcomed students from Belfast Met for a friendly 5‑a‑side and 8‑a‑side tournament, while also supporting refugee participants and LGBT+ young people through dedicated inclusion activities.

For the second consecutive year, the Foundation hosted students from Belfast Met, which is helping to be create a collaborative bond between the two organisations both on and off the pitch. Building on the success of last year’s event, players from both programmes came together in a competitive yet inclusive environment that showcased the spirit of community football.

Teams participated across small‑sided formats, giving players the opportunity to demonstrate their technical ability, decision‑making and game understanding in fast‑paced match conditions. While the tournament delivered valuable playing experience, it also helped deepen relationships between young people from different locations, reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to using football as a vehicle for creating connections.

Refugee Teams Shine at the Blackburn Rovers Inclusion Cup

In another proud moment for the Foundation, two refugee football teams — funded through Islamic Relief — were invited to take part in the Blackburn Rovers Inclusion Cup. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, progressing all the way to the final, with one side lifting the trophy after a memorable run.

The tournament offered a powerful platform for players seeking safety and stability in the UK, providing an opportunity to compete, represent the Foundation and build confidence within a supportive football environment.

LGBT+ History Month: Inclusion Team Hosts Social Activity

As part of the Foundation’s LGBT+ History Month activity, the Inclusion team delivered its second social event for participants from the LGBT+ weekly football sessions. The session encouraged young people to try new sports, enjoy time with friends and strengthen social connections outside of a football environment.

These moments of community‑building lie at the heart of the Foundation’s mission, ensuring that football isn’t just about physical activity, but also about creating safe, positive spaces where everyone feels welcome.
