LFC FoundationLFC Foundation, Islamic Relief UK and Liverpool Region Mosque Network will help some of the most vulnerable people across Liverpool City Region during this winter
The initiative, supported by the Reds official charity will be part of Islamic Relief UK’s largest ever nationwide winter food distribution.
On Monday a team from Liverpool Region Mosque Network and staff from Anfield, LFC stores and LFC Foundation helped to deliver 300 food hampers to people across the Liverpool City Region as young people and families across the region continue to struggle financially due to the rising cost of living.
These hampers, filled with food and essential items, are aimed at providing relief to families and is particularly timely, considering the ongoing crisis that has seen a steep rise in food and fuel costs.
The need for such initiatives has become increasingly urgent. Recent reports highlight a dramatic surge in food bank usage across the Liverpool City Region. Food banks have witnessed a significant rise in demand, with some experiencing up to a 96% increase in demand compared to the previous year.
The Trussell Trust, a major representative of the region's food banks, reported distributing a record 41,821 three-day emergency food parcels in just half a year, indicating a nearly 38% increase over the previous year's figures. These statistics underscore the rapidly growing need for food assistance in the region, exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis.
Many people have been hit hard by the cost-of-living crisis, especially low-income families, those who are homeless, asylum seekers and refugees. The rising demand at the city’s food banks and support services is a clear indicator of the worsening financial crisis in the region.
Matt Parish, Chief Executive Officer of LFC Foundation said, “Our work across Liverpool City Region in our communities gives us a real understanding of the challenges that young people and families are facing.”
“By working with Islamic Relief and Liverpool Mosque Regional Network our aim is to deliver initiatives that support as many people as possible.”
Tawhid Islam, Co-Chair from the Liverpool Region Mosque Network emphasized the gravity of the situation: “The rising demand at the city’s food banks and support services is a clear indicator of the worsening financial crisis in the region.”
“Our collaboration with Islamic Relief UK and LFC Foundation, is more than just about providing immediate relief; it's about standing in solidarity with those who are most vulnerable during these trying times. The scale of the challenge is immense, and it calls for concerted efforts to provide sustainable solutions.”
