The LFC Foundation’s U12s Girls Academy squad recently enjoyed a memorable opportunity, taking part in a Legends fixture in a ball assistant role and supporting the game at pitchside.

The experience allowed the young players to witness football icons up close, with first-hand exposure to role models including Steven Gerrard and Natasha Dowie. Being pitch‑side at such a high‑profile fixture offered a unique learning experience, helping to inspire the players as they continue their development journey.

Opportunities like this play an important role in raising aspirations, giving the girls a tangible insight into the environment and standards they can work towards as part of the female football pathway, with the long‑term ambition of progressing towards Liverpool FC Women’s First Team representation.

The U12s Girls Academy forms a key part of the LFC Foundation’s football development pathway and is proudly funded through Kirkland funding. The programme provides a high‑quality elite environment for aspiring players and sits alongside the Emerging Talent Centre, Player Development Programme and U14s Girls Academy.

By combining high‑level football experiences with structured player development, the LFC Foundation continues to support young people to reach their full potential, on and off the pitch.

Karl Carney, LFC Foundation's Sport and Physical Activities Department Manager said, "Legends fixtures are always a special experience, to welcome home former players and celebrate their achievements for the Club in front of a sold out Anfield Stadium."

"For our girls academy this is a fantastic opportunity for them to have an up close experience a fixture that features some of the greatest names in world football."

"Days like today will have a positive impact on their development as the girls are able to learn through observation, seeing how the players move and position themselves, how they set standards for themselves and each other and to listen in to the communication and teamwork across the pitch".
