LFC FoundationFive Teams Unite for Premier League Kicks Black History Month Tournament
The October half-term saw the return of LFC Foundation’s annual Premier League Kicks Black History Month tournament at Anfield Sports and Community Centre.
Delivered as part of the Premier League’s “No Room for Racism” campaign, the event brought together young people from across the Premier League Charitable Fund network to celebrate diversity and stand united against racism.
Teams representing Birmingham City, Blackpool, Everton, Wrexham and LFC Foundation took part in this year’s Under-16 tournament, with players enjoying a day of competitive football and meaningful discussion.
Ahead of the tournament, professional boxer Natasha Jonas, former Liverpool FC goalkeeper, now LFC Foundation community ambassador, Chris Kirkland and former Premier League Kicks participant Quevin Nkungi took part in a guest panel. They shared their personal experiences of racism in both sport and society, highlighting the importance of education and our collective responsibility to challenge discrimination.
On the pitch, it was a highly competitive day of football, with LFC Foundation progressing to the final after overcoming Wrexham in a dramatic semi-final penalty shootout.
The final proved just as exciting, finishing 1-1 before being decided on penalties. Despite a strong performance from the Reds, Blackpool emerged victorious in another close shoot out to lift the trophy.
The annual event continues to showcase the impact of Premier League Kicks, promoting inclusion and providing positive opportunities for young people.
