LFC FoundationCommemorative Diogo Jota T-shirt to help fund LFC Foundation programme in his name
A special commemorative T-shirt in memory of Diogo Jota has been launched by LFC Retail, with all profits going to the LFC Foundation to support a grassroots football programme in his name.
The tribute design, in grey for adults and white for kids, shows the poignant image of Jota making the heart gesture with his hands, lyrics from his song and ‘Forever 20’. It is available from Friday August 15 in three LFC Retail Stores (Liverpool One, Anfield and Williamson Square only) and online or via the LFC Store App.
The club has already confirmed that after consultation with Diogo’s family, it has retired the number 20 shirt in his honour and memory across all levels of the club, including LFC Women and the Academy.
Supporters can also still honour him by having ‘Diogo J. 20’ printed on the back of their shirt in official club stores or via official online store.
All profits from ‘Diogo J. 20’ printing will also go to the LFC Foundations commitment to create a grassroots football programme in his name.
Ahead of the first game of the new season there will be fan-led tribute to Diogo and his brother Andre, with a special mosaic shown in the Kop and the Sir Kenny Dalglish stand. This will be unveiled by fans during a period of silence prior to kick-off against Bournemouth on Friday night.
Players will display their own tribute with a specially made ‘Forever 20’ emblem printed into their shirts and stadium jackets, which will remain in place for the season.
This will be followed by tributes in honour of the brothers across all Premier League games for the first weekend of the season.
The club has already provided details on how it will create more permanent tributes moving forward. The thousands of physical tributes that were left outside Anfield have been removed and carefully separated and safely stored.
Floral tributes are being composted and will be used in flower beds across all club sites, including Anfield, the AXA Training Centre and AXA Melwood Training Centre. The remaining artefacts will be recycled by a specialist company and used to help create a permanent memorial sculpture that will become a future focal point of remembrance at Anfield.
In the meantime, a temporary area of reflection has been created at Anfield so people can continue to pay their respects.
