Liverpool are plotting a swoop for Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi, according to reports in his native France.

Relegated Villa are set for a major overhaul of their squad under new manager Roberto Di Matteo this summer and are understood to be willing to cash in on Amavi.

The 22-year-old arrived at Villa Park from Nice last summer and featured regularly while Tim Sherwood was in charge but then suffered a serious injury in November which kept him out for the remainder of the season.

However, according to L'Equipe, Liverpool are willing to take a risk on Amavi's fitness by submitting a £10m bid for him this summer.

That will be enough to persuade Villa into selling, although Liverpool may face competition from AC Milan and Lyon who have reportedly been in touch with Amavi's agent over his availability.
