Thiago Alcântara will return to Anfield two years after retiring from football to join the Liverpool FC Legends’ squad for their match against Borussia Dortmund (BVB) Legends.

The gifted midfielder will feature for the first time in the charity match, which kicks off at 3pm on Saturday 28 March 2026 at Anfield.

Thiago spent four seasons with Liverpool, making 98 appearances and scoring three goals. Known for his flair on the ball and remarkable passing ability, he was a central figure in the team that won both the FA Cup and League Cup in 2021/22.

One of his defining moments came during the second half of Liverpool’s Champions League tie with FC Porto in November 2021, when a first-time half-volley from 25 yards out earned him the Champions League Goal of the Tournament award. It was his ability to deliver magical moments like this that meant that, despite injuries restricting his game time, he would leave the club as a much-loved fan favourite.

Thiago Alcântara will join the players already announced, including Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypiä, Martin Škrtel, Vladimir Šmicer, Natasha Dowie, and goalkeepers Jerzy Dudek, Pepe Reina and Sander Westerveld.

The management team for this year’s LFC Foundation Legends charity match has also been confirmed, with Jurgen Klopp, the Foundation’s honorary ambassador, returning to the Anfield dugout to assist manager Sir Kenny Dalglish.

They will be joined on the sidelines by LFC official ambassador and all-time record goal scorer Ian Rush, and Forever Reds Chair John Aldridge.

As always, all of the proceeds from this fixture – supported by AXA and held in association with Forever Reds – will go directly towards the work of LFC Foundation and Forever Reds.

Funds raised will support LFC Foundation's employability programmes, which help people across the community to find work, gain qualifications and develop new skills through mentoring and training.

The game will also contribute to the Foundation's long-term strategy and its ambition to support 500,000 people a season by 2030.
