Young People from YPAS Attend LFC Women’s Community Day Match to Celebrate LGBT+ History Month
On Sunday 2nd, February, a group of young people from the Young Person’s Advisory Service (YPAS) were given a special opportunity to attend an LFC Women’s Community Day football match as part of the LFC Foundation’s LGBT+ History Month celebrations. The invitation, supported by The Foundation and its community outreach initiatives, aimed to promote inclusion, representation, and the power of sport in championing LGBT+ equality.
YPAS, a leading organisation supporting young people’s mental health and well-being, works closely with LGBT+ youth across Liverpool. The match provided an inspiring experience, allowing young people to see strong role models in women’s football while feeling a sense of belonging in an inclusive sporting environment.
In addition to watching top-tier women’s football, the group also engaged in discussions with former LFCW players Becky Easton and LFC Foundation Ambassador, Tasha Dowie, about their careers, the importance of visibility in sport, and how football clubs can continue to foster inclusive spaces for LGBT+ players and fans. The experience reinforced the message that football is for everyone, regardless of background or identity.
The young people left inspired, not only by an emphatic win by the LFC Women’s team but also by the club’s commitment to equality.
Dionne Johnson, LFC Foundation Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Departmental Manager said
“The Foundation, alongside the Premier League’s wider commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, continues to create meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with the game. By inviting YPAS to this fixture, the club further demonstrated its dedication to ensuring football remains a welcoming space for all.
Moments like these highlight the positive impact football can have in celebrating diversity and driving change in communities.”
