LFC FoundationLFC Foundation welcomes government’s new National Youth Strategy
LFC Foundation is encouraged by the launch of the government’s new National Youth Strategy, which was published this week.
The youth strategy, which is the first of its kind for over two decades, aims to directly confront the immediate challenges faced by more than 10.6 million young people.
It recognises the social isolation of young people with the places available for them to engage in meaningful activity and relationships on the decline.
Young people have concerns about their safety on the streets as well as about their physical and mental health and those born in the Liverpool City Region (LCR) are at an even greater disadvantage with LCR ranked as one of the countries most deprived areas.
The LFC Foundation focuses on tackling social inequalities and raising aspirations in the Liverpool City Region and beyond and looks forward to working in tandem with the National Youth Strategy to provide even better mental health support and greater access to opportunities through Health, Learning and Employability programmes.
The government have pledged to deliver on their 10 Year Health Plan, improving young people’s access to healthcare services and LFC Foundation’s latest impact report has seen the club’s official charity generate more than £170 million in healthcare savings. Moreover, the LFC Foundation has also contributed to over £36 million into the local economy and supported a total of 529,000 people over the past five years.
LFC Foundation has also garnered a combined social value of £364.79 million since 2020. Tackling the underlying causes of child poverty, including free breakfast clubs in every primary school in England, is another key aim of the new strategy and last season alone LFC Foundation supported over 145,000 people with over half of the participants from the top 20% most deprived areas in the country. This support included delivering 11,040 sessions and 693 community events across 315 community venues, including 206 schools.
Commenting on the National Youth Strategy, LFC Foundation CEO Matt Parish said: “The Government’s National Youth Strategy is welcome news for the future of young people. An investment in our young people is vital and working in areas of health, learning and employability we feel we can really help drive this strategy forward as we aim to tackle social inequality in our communities.
“We look forward to seeing this strategy executed and as a charity who works with over 145,000 per season in over 200 schools and 300 community venues, we feel we can really help improve the life chances of young people.
“We are also looking forward to continue working with partners across the sector in helping deliver this strategy in the Liverpool City Region and beyond.”
