FoundationLFC Foundation supports Liverpool Regional Mosque Network (LRMN) during Ramadan.
As part of our ongoing community partnership with the Liverpool Regional Mosque Network, the Foundation supported the LRMN last Tuesday at St George’s Hall as they welcomed refugees for an iftar meal
This was in collaboration with Islamic Relief, another key community partner.
Prior to the event, the Foundation worked with the LRMN to help pull together and deliver 500 food parcels across the city to community hubs, schools and local children's hospital Alder Hey.
The event at the iconic St Georges Hall was a celebration of Ramadan in the lead up to Eid al-Fitr on Friday 21st April with more than 250 people from Syria, Afghanistan and Eritrea welcomed to spend time together and break their fast.
The Foundation helped by funding the coach travel for refugees so they could attend the event with a huge thanks to the LFC Womens Expedia buses which are normally used for travelling LFCFW fans.
LFC Foundation CEO, Matt Parish:
“The LFC Foundation has been working in partnership with the Liverpool Regional Mosque Network and Islamic Relief for the last four years. This partnership allows us to support and work with as many members of the community as possible and is a great example of a true partnership in which all involved bring their own knowledge and expertise together for the benefit of the participants we work with. This has included sports and football sessions for refugee groups, the distribution of food hampers and parcels across the community, and Taste Ramadan events. We were excited to support the Share Ramadan event at St Georges Hall this year.”
Tawhid Islam from Liverpool Region Mosque Network
“There’s lots taking place within the city to support refugees adapting to new and different surroundings. We thought there was a gap when it comes to a holy festival, like Ramadan, that can feel a little more lonely and bewildering if you’ve been used to celebrating in your country of origin. That’s why we organized Share Ramadan. We’re contributing to Liverpool’s long and rich tradition of offering sanctuary and refuge to people from all over the world. Hosting the event in the grandeur of St George’s Hall, symbolizes that perfectly
We have been able to put this event on because of the strength of our partnership with LFC Foundation, Islamic Relief and Liverpool City Council over the years; but I would also like to pay tribute to all the other public-spirited organisations and selfless individuals who have rallied behind us to make this event happen.”
Tufail Hussain, Director of Islamic Relief UK said
“Islamic Relief is delighted to be working with Liverpool Football Club Foundation and Liverpool Regional Mosque Network this Ramadan. The community across the wonderful city of Liverpool truly embody the spirit of unity and togetherness that Ramadan is all about. This iftar provides an opportunity to celebrate that spirit and offer a warm welcome to the refugee communities in the city.”
All this compliments the bigger awareness pieces of April being Amnesty Welcomes Month and how we support refugees integrating into our communities.
