LFC FoundationLFC Foundation and club partner SC Johnson support UK Recycling Week 2023.
To celebrate UK Recycling Week 2023, the LFC Foundation, supported by club partner SC Johnson, visited six different local schools to educate the young people about recycling.
Across 5 days, we welcomed over 1,400 young people in KS2 to join in our assemblies, with 47 different classes in attendance across the schools. This also included 52 teachers, TAs and other school support staff who were intrigued to hear the important message of the week.
Pupils learnt about ‘missed capture’ - discussing with their peers what can and can’t be recycled at home and addressing a number of recycling misconceptions.
Alongside this, the children took part in a ‘scavenger’ style hunt, where 8 lucky children were picked to be bin men or women and had to find the hidden pieces of rubbish around their school hall with the help of their classmates. After all the pieces had been found, it was then up to the children to discuss what could be recycled and what couldn’t.
iwill Social Action Programme Manager Stephen Hale said: "Thanks to the support of SC Johnson, it has been brilliant to be able to go into a number of local primary schools over the last few days to deliver impactful assemblies to over 1,400 pupils for UK Recycling Week 2023.
“Sessions were designed with the theme of 'The Big Recycling Hunt' in mind. Young people were encouraged to identify the right things to recycle and to do this more often both at home and in school. We also addressed common recycling misconceptions and took action by completing some hunting of their own.
“We want all young people to be recycling champions at home, so we encouraged the young people to take their learnings back home to teach their friends and families.”
Liverpool FC and SC Johnson are working hard to reduce waste across the club by 10% this season and understand how important it is to empower young people with the knowledge of looking after the environment & helping the communities around them to become more sustainable.
