FoundationForever Reds support Darby Rimmer March of the Day with £5,000 donation
Former Liverpool FC players were out in force this week to support the Darby Rimmer March of the Day, which set off from Anfield.
Forever Reds, LFC’s official former players’ association, has donated £5,000 to support this year’s event, organised by the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation.
Among those showing their support at the start of the walk were Chris Kirkland, Emile Heskey, David Fairclough, Rickie Lambert, Stephen Wright and Dominic Matteo.
Stephen Darby – who was diagnosed with MND at 29 – attended the start of the walk alongside his wife Steph Hoghton at Anfield to show their support.
Chairman of Forever Reds John Aldridge said: “It’s great to support this year’s March of the Day with this £5,000 donation. We know it will make a difference to the charity and to show our support for one of our own. Wishing everyone taking part good luck for the challenge ahead.”
In 2024 and 2025, the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation staged its first two March of the Day events in the North of England and in London and the Southeast. Together, these raised more than £370,000. The club has previously supported the charity at a pre-season friendly in 2019 following Stephen’s diagnosis. The sell-out friendly against Bradford helped raised over £275,000 to kick start the charity.
This year’s event is the biggest yet and will span 340 miles over six days, visiting 45 football and rugby league grounds.
The challenge will support both the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation and Leeds Hospitals Charity, which supports the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease care.
Hundreds of football and rugby league fans are expected to join sections of the route, including a 160-mile stretch from Liverpool to Stockport, showing their support for the MND community.
Stadiums visited along the route include Anfield, Goodison Park, Hill Dickinson, St Helens, Wigan Athletic, Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End, Leeds United before completing the walk at the Rob Burrows Centre for MND on 6 June.

Forever Reds was created to ensure former players always feel part of the LFC family – supporting them, involving them in community initiatives and bringing them together to raise funds for important local charitable causes alongside the LFC Foundation.
