LFC FoundationEmily’s Journey as a Community Sport & Health Apprentice
Emily joined the LFC Foundation’s Education and Life Skills department as an Apprentice Community Sport & Health Officer with a clear passion for sport and helping others.
Since beginning her apprenticeship, Emily’s confidence has increased significantly, especially in leading sessions independently. She has gone from shadowing staff to planning, delivering, and reflecting on her own activities, always ensuring they are inclusive, engaging, and age appropriate.
Her ability to engage with diverse groups – from primary school pupils to adults in community programmes – has strengthened her communication skills and highlighted her adaptability. She ensures every participant feels included, using clear instructions, modelling, and tailored approaches to meet different needs, including those with SEND. Whilst working across the team Emily has been able to experience a variety of different settings and delivery models allowing her a broad learning experience.
Emily says: “I am more confident when speaking in front of people I don’t know. I feel as though I learn better through hands-on learning and gaining practical experiences”.
Emily has played an active role in supporting large-scale events and workshops, including sessions delivered at Anfield. She has also contributed to the planning of the WE Empower curriculum, gaining valuable insight into curriculum design and the level of detail needed to ensure progression.
As part of her apprenticeship, she has engaged with stakeholders, partners, and schools, always maintaining a positive and professional manner. Her enthusiasm and reliability make her a trusted representative of the Foundation.
Emily is passionate about the difference her work makes she has also demonstrated her ability to support pupils with complex needs. Reflecting on one young participant who had experienced trauma, Emily described how she worked one-to-one to develop calming techniques highlighting her patience, empathy, and desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young people.
