BeobachtenThriller, Gerrards Streiks und Feierlichkeiten: Höhepunkte früherer LFC Legends-Spiele

Borussia Dortmund are the opposition this year, lining up against a Liverpool FC Legends side containing Steven Gerrard, Thiago Alcantara, Pepe Reina, Sami Hyypia and more.

The occasion – supported by AXA and held in association with Forever Reds, the official LFC former players association – first took place in 2017 and has raised millions of pounds for worthwhile causes.

All of the proceeds from this weekend's fixture will go directly towards the work of LFC Foundation and Forever Reds.

Previous editions suggest the clash with Dortmund will be one not to miss – take a look at highlights from years past below.

Liverpool 4-3 Real Madrid – 2017

A capacity crowd witnessed two iconic institutions serve up seven goals and plenty of drama.

Gerrard, two years on from signing off as a player in the senior team, returned to put Liverpool 4-0 up in this affair, having assisted earlier goals from Michael Owen, John Aldridge and Robbie Fowler.

The Spanish visitors fell just short in their attempts of a remarkable comeback, which included a late effort from ex-Red Fernando Morientes.

Liverpool 5-5 Bayern Munich – 2018

In terms of the number of goals, this match remains the one to beat.

Owen, Fowler (two), Dirk Kuyt and Bjorn Tore Kvarme were the scorers for the hosts that day.

Xabi Alonso made 45-minute outings for both teams and got on the scoresheet in the second half while in the Bayern strip.

Liverpool 3-2 AC Milan – 2019

A clash of former titans was settled with a typical Gerrard strike from distance.

A number of those involved in the clubs' Champions League final almost 14 years earlier locked horns again here, with Cafu, Kaka and Andrea Pirlo among the travelling party.

Fowler and Djibril Cisse netted for the Reds before their skipper's heroics right at the end.

Liverpool 1-2 Barcelona – 2022

The spectacle was back after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Barça side containing Rivaldo, Javier Saviola and Edgar Davids prevailed in L4 after a Gerrard opener from the penalty spot.

Liverpool 2-1 Manchester United – 2022

A two-legged affair between English football's most successful clubs was dubbed Legends of the North.

Holding a 3-1 advantage from the opening leg, Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama-Pongolle struck after the break to add to their team's aggregate lead and secure the crown.

Liverpool 2-0 Celtic – 2023

You'll Never Walk Alone was sung a little bit louder on this day as a healthy away end joined in with the anthem adopted by both clubs.

Gerrard, not long after managing Celtic's city rivals Rangers, opened the scoring with a penalty after seven minutes.

Liverpool's lead was neatly doubled by Gonzalez early in the second half.

Liverpool 4-2 AFC Ajax – 2024

Fernando Torres capped off his LFC Legends debut by completing a brilliant comeback against their Dutch opponents.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, the Sven-Goran Eriksson-managed side turned the game around through finishes from Gregory Vignal, Nabil El Zhar, Cisse and Torres.

Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea – 2025

Peter Crouch brought out his trademark robot celebration twice on his first appearance at Anfield since departing in 2008.

A towering header and delicious lob from the big man was the difference in the fixture, which saw history made by Natasha Dowie becoming the first female to take to the field.
