Roy Evans swooped to snap up defender Bjorn Tore Kvarme for Liverpool in January 1997.

<p>Kvarme made a promising start and was able to play in the right-back position as well as centre-back.</p><p>The Norwegian was in the starting line-up for the rest of the 1996-97 season, only missing European games because he had already featured for Rosenborg in continental competition.</p><p>Kvarme continued to be first-choice at the start of the following campaign too, but a couple of errors saw him dropped from the team and he was sold to Saint-Etienne in 1999.</p>
