Uruguay midfielder Matias Vecino has claimed he would like to play for Liverpool.

Vecino is having a solid season with Fiorentina and has established himself in the starting XI following loan spells with Cagliari and Empoli.

The 25-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Serie A side this term who are having a decent season, currently sitting in eighth place.

However, Vecino has admitted he has ambitions to leave the Italian club for a chance to test himself in the Premier League.

And the Uruguay international has claimed Liverpool would be his preferred destination, following in the footsteps of his compatriot Luis Suarez.

When asked about his future, he told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: “I think I like to do things the right way.

“My dream has always been to play in England, but I don’t know whether I will be here until I am 30 or 35.

“I always liked Liverpool and I would like to follow [Marcos] Alonso and many other team-mates of my national team.

"It doesn’t mean I will be going to England tomorrow.”

Marcos Alonso left Fiorentina for the Premier League in the summer, joining Chelsea for £23million.

While Vecino's countryman Suarez enjoyed thee years in England, scoring 82 times for the Reds in 133 appearances.
