Liverpool lodged an offer for Leandro Paredes with a view to signing the Roma midfielder in the summer, according to reports in Italy.

Paredes is currently on loan at Empoli and the promising midfielder has impressed in his 26 appearances for the Serie A outfit this season.

Calciomercato say the Reds launched a £4.7million bid for Paredes but Roma are demanding a larger fee for the highly-rated 21-year-old.

Luciano Spalletti is looking to cash-in on the youngster but it appears the Merseyside outfit will have to up their offer in order to land their target.

Jurgen Klopp is understood to be an avid admirer of Paredes and the Argentine’s 83 per cent pass completion rate this season.
