Amid unforgettable scenes of shared celebration between players and supporters at Stadio Olimpico, a host of Liverpool's stars articulated their emotions after reaching the Champions League final.

The Reds resisted AS Roma's attempts to overturn a 5-2 deficit from last week's last-four first leg at Anfield on Wednesday.

A meeting with Real Madrid in Kiev awaits later this month after they claimed a 7-6 aggregate victory over the Serie A outfit, despite a 4-2 defeat in the Italian capital on Wednesday.

Afterwards, BT Sport grabbed a word with four of Liverpool's heroes to get their thoughts on a remarkable night in Rome.

Read on to find out what Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner and Andy Robertson made of it...

Henderson

We never do it the easy way, unfortunately! [It's an] amazing, an amazing effort. We knew it’d be tough coming here but I thought first half we did well, scored some good goals, could’ve been a little bit more clinical on the counter-attack, but overall I thought we handled the situation well apart from maybe the last 10 minutes of the second half, conceding the late goals like we did. So we need to stop that, but overall we’ve just got to be delighted we’re in the final.

We knew it was important to score and to get one early on was brilliant. We were a little bit unlucky with their first goal, I think it’s a clearance that’s hit Millie’s head and gone in, so we’re a little bit unfortunate there. But overall, first leg and second leg, I think we’ve got to be happy with what we’ve done. Of course we can be much better in this leg, but overall we’re just pleased to get through to the final.

We’ve been entertaining I think but now we’ve got to look forward. We’ve got another important game at the weekend against Chelsea, and then the last home game of the season against Brighton and then obviously Madrid in the final, which of course won’t be easy, they’re a fantastic team, but we can go there with confidence and just give it everything.

Wijnaldum

It’s perfect timing [to score his first away goal for Liverpool]! It was a really important moment when I scored the goal, it was 1-1. I was standing in front of the goalkeeper and I was lucky that the ball came down there and I had the goal.

It’s going to be a nice game [against Real]. If you want to win the Champions League you have to beat everyone, so Real Madrid’s a tough opponent with a lot of good players, but we have them also so it’s going to be a good match.

Milner

I don’t know what to say after that! We know how to make it interesting, don’t we?! I think we were pretty in control first half. Second half they put the pressure on us, we know they’re a good team, but that’s what it’s all about, these scenes here.

Again that’s something that we need to do better, we know that, see out games and stuff like that. The penalty was a bit harsh I thought, the first goal's a bit ridiculous as well - obviously we could do that 1000 times and it’s not going to happen again, but all in all I thought we played well.

We should control the game better, I think a few of the breakaways at times we maybe had shots too early when we had them stretched and we could’ve maybe made that extra pass. But to get to a Champions League final, no one said it was easy and we managed to do that and beat some very good teams along the way.

We’ve scored a lot of goals, that’s the first defeat [in the Champions League this season] as well obviously, and against the teams we’ve played that’s pleasing. It’s a disappointment [to lose on the night] but it was all about getting the job done and we managed to do that, no matter how difficult we made it, and we’re through to the final now.

We’ve got to enjoy this but not for too long unfortunately because we’ve got another big game at the weekend.

Robertson

What a thing to be involved in and credit to all the lads, we’ve came through every challenge that we’ve been set so far and all of them behind us [the fans] have been different class from minute one in this Champions League and all the lads, all the fans, deserve it.

It’s hard when you come in and you’re defending a lead. The first and foremost thing is you need to remember that you’re defending that lead and you need to be in the final and we managed to do that. We’ve managed to get a couple of goals and yeah, we’ve ended up getting beat, but they threw everything at us and the lads have been different class from minute one and we’ve done brilliantly.

You look back at what I was probably doing this time last season, fighting for our lives at Hull and sadly we finished short. But this season I had to take my time, but now I feel as if I’m at home and what a result today and I’ll certainly enjoy Kiev. We’ve got a few big games lining up before that, but it’s all leading up to that big game now.

I think we’ll enjoy this tonight and we’ll maybe think about that [facing Real] another day! They’re so experienced and the last couple of years they’ve absolutely dominated the Champions League so we’ll go in as underdogs, but sometimes that can be a good thing. We’ll try our best and the fans will get a great day out, we’ll have a great day and hopefully we can bring the trophy back.
