A collective effort has been the key to Liverpool's impressive defensive record in recent weeks, Ragnar Klavan believes.

The Reds’ last six outings have involved the concession of just two goals, with Friday night’s away clash with Arsenal next up as the hectic winter fixture schedule continues.

Of course, Jürgen Klopp’s team’s last trip to north London ended in a 4-1 reverse to Tottenham Hotspur - but, since that defeat at Wembley, they have conceded only four times in nine Premier League games.

And Klavan, who has started Liverpool’s last four matches, has credited the entire team with playing their part in that improvement.

“It’s not only about the defence - it’s the way the whole team changed,” the centre-back said.

“Everything starts from defence and then it’s easier for everybody to defend. When everybody is [working hard] to defend, that makes the difference.”

Last season’s meeting with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium saw the Reds claim three points in a seven-goal thriller on the opening day of the campaign.

That fixture represented Klavan’s debut for the club and he is anticipating another closely-fought battle this evening.

“I still remember the game - it was my debut in the Premier League. It was a crazy game, but in the end we won 4-3,” the Estonia international recalled.

“It’s in my mind like it was yesterday. It is two really good teams playing against each other. The difference is only one point. It’s going to be a nice game.”
