Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has welcomed the decision to rename the Centenary Stand at Anfield the Kenny Dalglish Stand, declaring: 'I love this news'.

It was announced earlier this week that the legendary former Reds player and manager would be permanently honoured at the club's famous home ground.

In his programme notes ahead of today's meeting with Southampton, Klopp has hailed the news, explaining that the renamed stand will serve as an inspiration to him and his players going forward.

He wrote: "It was announced this week that from next season the Centenary Stand will be renamed ‘The Kenny Dalglish Stand’. This is so cool – I love this news.

"From my experiences of Kenny I can imagine he is typically playing it down; he is not someone who likes to talk about himself or his achievements.

"But I am sorry Kenny – this is absolutely deserved and a fantastic decision from our owners. One of the many things I love about this place is the acknowledgement of individuals who mean so much to LFC.

"And it is not just because they were good on a football pitch or good in a dugout. They are people who inspire, whose stories lift your spirit and make you want to be part of something.

"For me at least, a decision like this isn’t about looking backwards and thinking about the past. It is about taking inspiration from the achievements, learning from their
story and using it in a positive way to create more great moments in the future.

"When we see the name Kenny Dalglish prominent at Anfield next season it will be a symbol of what can be done, not just what has been done before."
