It was an evening of positivity for Liverpool on Saturday as they produced an impressive performance to secure a 3-1 triumph against Arsenal at Anfield.

The result - achieved through goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum - lifted the Reds back into the Premier League top four with 11 games to go.

How’s your touch?

Firmino scored the first and created the second for the Reds, but could not quite convert from perhaps his most ingenious piece of skill of the night.

In the second half, the No.11 controlled an awkward pass with exquisite agility, swerving his body to fool two defenders in the area, though his attempt on goal was blocked…

Simon’s crucial save

At the other end, Simon Mignolet made an outstanding save to deny Olivier Giroud shortly before the Gunners did halve the deficit through Danny Welbeck.

The Belgium international reacted quickly to get a hand to the Arsenal man’s well-placed header, pushing the ball onto the crossbar and collecting as it dropped again…

A hug from the gaffer

Wijnaldum’s unerring stoppage-time blast ensured three points for the Reds and produced an explosion of noise at the Kop end.

Over at the home dugout, Jürgen Klopp embarked on a passionate celebration of his own – which included a massive hug for a nearby Liverpool supporter in the stands…

Final-whistle joy

The final whistle heralded further celebrations, of course, particularly given the game’s importance in the congested race for a Champions League qualification spot.

And, to immediately acknowledge their efforts, the manager set off on the trademark round of hugs for his players which typically follows a Reds victory…
