Jürgen Klopp has explained that planning is already under way to strengthen the 'good base' in the Liverpool squad this summer.

The manager and his players are currently in La Manga, Spain for a mid-season training camp ahead of the Premier League run-in.

The Reds resume their campaign with a trip to Leicester City later this month, when they will try to build on an impressive win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield last time out.

And while the team are attempting to achieve the club’s ambitions on the pitch in the remainder of the season, off it Klopp and his staff will also be deciding how to progress their project for the future.

“Not a lot of decisions have been already made at this point. Why should they at this stage?” the manager told the Liverpool Echo with regard to transfer plans.

“But we are on the way. At the end I’m sure we will have a really good squad. We already have a good squad and a few more good players will make it even better. There’s a good base.

“Of course, if we are in the Champions League then it would have an influence. We would need a deeper squad and you have to be prepared for that. No question.

“Even with the league this season, we could have needed a deeper squad with the injuries we had. But we’re through that now. We will adapt our plans to the number of tournaments we play next year.”
