Liverpool’s players took part in a six-a-side tournament in their second training session of the day in La Manga on Thursday – and our photographer was there to capture the best of the action.

Split into red, yellow, white and black teams, the squad contested an entertaining competition in Spain – with a forfeit for the outright losers.

There were six games of six minutes, three games of two touch and three games of "all in".

Three points were given for winning a match, one for a draw, one for each goal contributing to a positive goal difference and two for goals scored.

With Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius, Alex Manninger and John Achterberg taking turns to tend goal for each side, ultimately it was the red team consisting of Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Joe Gomez, Georginio Wijnaldum and substitute duo Connor Randall and Conor Masterson that emerged victorious.

Finishing in fourth place were the black-bibbed team, made up of Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Ragnar Klavan, Nathaniel Clyne and Kevin Stewart.

Their punishment? Being forced to jump into the freezing cold pool.
